I think my style has evolved to where it is now, and I think eyewear is just prominent in my new style. I mean, all the stuff that I used to do before, I feel like it was more of an elevated streetwear kind of thing. And now that we’re kind of really getting into tailoring and essentially couture, I feel like the approach for sunglasses I wear is very sophisticated and very adult. I’m on my Jack Nicholson shit right now. I’m on my rat pack shit. I’m on my Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis shit right now. I’m on my Sidney Poitier shit.

Tell us about the sunglasses in the room right now. What are we looking at here?
So we’re looking at a limited capsule collection that we’re going to sell. It’s basically, I would say quadruple tone, double tone, triple tone colors and stuff. And it does different things when light hits it the material changes colors. It’s wild. As you can see, it looks pretty orange right here, but it’s actually dark chocolate brown. We want to do different colors on different layers and even the lenses will be mirrored in different colors. So it’s just a little experimental stuff. What I started to hate about the fashion industry was that everybody took themselves too seriously. And I enjoy when people have a little bit of, I guess, playfulness. Just a little touch of not taking yourself too seriously and shit.
And are we going to get another AWGE fashion show?
Absolutely. So we were supposed to have a fashion show last month [at New York Fashion Week], but unfortunately I was going through the trial, so it was postponed. But I really wanted to do something that was dedicated to the Harlem Renaissance, New York City in general. This marks 101 years of the Harlem Renaissance. The Met Gala fucking theme is dandyism. And I thought it was everything that I’m aligned with. It was so appropriate for the time. But God had other plans and I’m just going to roll with it.
What sunglasses are you going to wear to the Met Gala?
I got some ones with the iced out Ray-Ban logo on it. It is crazy. I got to have a pair for you. I’m dead serious, I’m going to send a pair to you. Dead ass! You think I’m lying? It’s on record!

It is, man. I hope people don’t get turned off by me answering questions about it. At this point they don’t want to hear nothing about it. They want to hear it.
The truth of the matter is fans, they’re starving. And I don’t think that any of us—it’s numerous artists, Frank Ocean, Lauryn Hill, DeAngelo, Rihanna, whoever. I think those people who really take their time to put out timeless pieces, projects and bodies of work, that’s all that matters. I don’t think they’re putting out music to stay relevant, to stay culturally relevant, to stay with the times, or just to have a dick swinging contest. I don’t think it’s about any of that shit. I think more so those particular people have a fan base that is like realistically starving. And the truth of the matter is they need to be fed, and I’m tired of saying that the plate is almost ready. It’s hot y’all! It’s hot! The chef is cooking. But here we are. I just want to bring it out. A whole gourmet meal. The whole course.
Are you ready to co-host the Met Gala? Are you nervous? What’s the vibe?
Nervous for what! You know who you talking to right now. I couldn’t wait! You shittin’ me? I’m from New York. I used to sneak in to go to the Met Gala. I never got in. I was a kid, I could never get in. Not only that, I’m critiquing every year. I just look at everybody’s outfits, you know? I couldn’t wait.
