Adam Scott Is the Camel Topcoat's Last Hope for Redemption

Adam Scott wants to bring back the camel topcoat. And you know what? We’re here for it.

Allow us to explain. A decade or so go, the camel topcoat was at the height of its powers. Every single guy who even remotely cared about his style owned one, and no matter where you were going or what you were doing, you were bound to spot at least one fella repping it. Which makes sense, because the easy-to-wear silhouette pretty much goes with everything.

Having one of them in your wardrobe was some main-character shit—heck, this very publication dressed the entire cast of Empire in them way back in 2015.

Today, the camel topcoat still makes an appearance every once in a while (both Dries Van Noten and Saint Laurent make great versions), but the menswear crowd has largely moved on to longer, darker alternatives. Well, Adam Scott—elite-level paragon of normal-guy style—is here to change all that.

Heading to The Drew Barrymore Show this week, the Severance actor pulled up in a tan wool riff with strong shoulders, deep pockets, and fanged-out peak lapels. Scott’s coat isn’t oversized, exactly, but it is big enough to layer over of a cozy sweater, which Scott paired with cuffed denim and shiny black derbies. In aggregate, the cheerful, peppy outfit was a far cry from the the corporate-drone fare we’re used to seeing on Severance.

So if this picture compels you to dig into the deepest, darkest recesses of your closet and dust off a camel overcoat of your own, more power to you. Fashion is notoriously cyclical, and you never know what’s going to pop off next. If Adam Scott has anything to say about it, reports of the camel topcoat’s death may have been greatly exaggerated.
