If there’s one thing to know about the relationship I have with my skin, it is that it is strained. The skin of my face is oily, breakout-prone and acneic, and the skin on my body is chronically dry and sensitive. While the facial acne has proved incredibly tricky to treat over the years (even as a beauty editor, I admit defeat when it comes to treating hormonal acne without medical assistance), I have been able to keep the naturally dry skin on my body somewhat hydrated. In fact, I have long boasted about the effectiveness of my body care routine.
And while my skin is mostly silky-soft due to my diligent body care regimen, there is one thing I haven’t been totally honest about. The skin on my shins, which I cover up for 90% of the year, is almost always scaly. It doesn’t seem to matter how often I slather on body scrubs or body lotion, nothing seems to shift the scales—even the thickest and richest body butters don’t seem to make a difference. But a couple of months ago, I tried something new in the form of Alpha-H Daily Dose Multivitamin Body Serum, and scaly shins have become a thing of the past. In fact, my legs are currently the shiniest, glossiest, most glowing versions of themselves.
What Is Alpha-H Daily Dose Multivitamin Body Serum?
Alpha-H
Daily Dose Multivitamin Body Serum
Not a body cream, not a body lotion, but a body serum—this stuff behaves somewhat similarly to a face serum. It has a lightweight texture with a thin, gel-like consistency, but with this comes a plethora of skincare ingredients that do so much more than just deliver moisture at surface level. In short, Alpha-H describes this product as: “A high-performance morning skincare serum, for your body.” And this basically sums it up.
It essentially promises long-lasting and long-term hydration at a deeper level than your standard body cream. Due to its lightweight nature, it lends itself to morning application. Most days, I use this body serum entirely on its own; however, if my legs are particularly dry, I will pop it on underneath my usual body cream post-shower for an added hydration boost.
How It Works

The thing that makes this body serum so exceptional is its hardworking ingredients. It contains the sort of ingredients you might find some of the top facial skincare brands using, and they work in much the same way on your body. It contains not only hyaluronic acid for hydration, but also polyglutamic acid to further hydrate, plump skin and minimise the chances of more moisture loss.
Beyond this, Daily Dose Multivitamin Body Serum also contains vitamin C to brighten, vitamin E to deliver ample nourishment and niacinamide to reduce redness and soothe irritation.
All of these ingredients in a lightweight texture work to battle dryness, soothe irritation, boost glow and strengthen the skin’s natural moisture barrier without leaving even a hint of greasiness in their wake. And spoiler: it is as good as it sounds.
My Review
Don’t get me wrong, I love a rich, nourishing body cream as much as the next person, but slathering a butter onto my skin in the morning before darting out of the house isn’t always the most practical solution to tackling my scaly shin situation. So right off the bat, the thing that I love the most about Alpha-H Daily Dose Multivitamin Body Serum is that it sinks in fully in just a few seconds, leaving not a hint of grease or oiliness behind.
And while this takes some getting used to (my brain is wired to believe my skin isn’t moisturised unless I can feel and see a greasy sheen on the surface), I can confirm the hydration is very much there. After just a week of using it every day, I noticed that my legs were significantly more hydrated (read: non-scaly) and found myself using the serum as daily maintenance rather than as a treatment.
Now, a month after using it every day, I can confirm that the skin on my legs is the best it has ever looked. My skin is glowing and almost impossibly healthy-looking. And it’s not just my legs that are doing better for me using this serum; the rest of my body feels softer than ever. Something really impressive to note is that my arms, which are typically prone to congestion and bumps, are smoother than ever, too.
And while it moisturises, boosts glow, soothes and smooths my skin in a way that no other body treatment I have ever used does (all without greasiness), I would note that if you have to apply thick body butters as a daily treatment, this serum would probably be better as a pre-treatment rather than used alone, which might prove expensive.
Another thing to note is that the first few times I applied the serum, I did find that it pilled. However, I have found that in order to prevent pilling, I just needed to tweak my application technique. You see, when applying body lotion, I am very much used to layering to reap the most out of any hydration, but the gel-like texture of the serum means it does not take well to layering. It takes some getting used to, but less really is more with this stuff (which is a real testament to its hydrating powers).
In short, this unassuming body serum has proved my most cherished beauty product of the season. It has taken my dull, drab, scaly legs and turned them smooth and glowing like never before. It’s like magic.

Skin Stimulating Body Brush
A once-a-week dry brush pre-bath hasn’t just helped boost circulation, but also smooth my skin.
Nécessaire
The Body Wash in Olibanum
I’m a sucker for all things Nécessaire, but this olibanum-scented body wash is a cut above the rest. It smells unbelievably expensive and works to even out skin texture while it cleanses.
& Other Stories
Perle De Coco Body Scrub
As mentioned, I’m a real body care connoisseur, and I can confirm that the & Other Stories body scrubs are amongst the best ever made—giving a good exfoliation while also lathering into a rich mousse. This one smells like milky coconut and warm caramel and is basically heaven in a tub.
Alpha-H
Daily Dose Multivitamin Body Serum
I pop the Alpha-H Daily Dose Multivitamin Body Serum on every morning before heading out of the house.
Mirror Water
Rub Solid Balm
I use this nourishing balm on particular dry areas such as heels, elbows and knees.
C.O. Bigelow
Lemon Body Cream
This under-the-radar body cream is easily one of the best I have ever used for long-lasting hydration. Like all creams, it does leave a slightly greasy sheen, but it only adds to its beauty. One application means I’m admiring the glow of my legs for a whole week afterwards. Plus, it smells like creamy, fresh lemons.

Nourishing Foot Balm
I simply don’t find that body creams or serums work hard enough on my feet, but this rich foot balm delivers all of the nourishment they need.
