Mark Wahlberg Is the First Celebrity to Wear the Patek Philippe Cubitus

Mark Wahlberg has a list of starring roles as long as his seriously jacked arms, but he’s just as famous for his internet-breaking morning routine. He’s up before 5 a.m., apparently works out twice a day, and still has time to fit in golf. Being such an early bird must mean he’s first to a lot of things, including the hypey Patek Philippe Cubitus that was unveiled in Munich last week and has appeared on his wrist already.

The actor has a thing for wearing the hottest watches right after they release. Earlier this year, he took the then-brand-new Patek Philippe World Time 5330G-001 for a spin on the red carpet. But with the Cubitus, he kept things closer to home, showing off his newest timepiece on Instagram before getting into his infrared sauna.

In the video, he’s singing the praises of a daily 20-minute sauna session and Patek’s ultra buzzy, green dial stainless steel Cubitus makes a starring role. Before getting a sweat on, Wahlberg takes off the watch because “you can’t wear the Cubitus in there,” he says. Which is a fair point considering its $41,243 price tag.

Patek’s newest, cubiest watch clocks in at 45mm, so it’s a big boy. Its meaty size was picked up straight away when it was first announced. Dimepiece’s Brynn Wallner called it a “capital M MAN’S WATCH”. But on Wahlberg’s burly wrist it looks right at home, which isn’t surprising when you consider the number of 40-plus mm watches in his collection (he’s got a couple of Aquanauts and Rolex Daytonas in there, too).

The Cubitus is Patek Philippe’s first new collection in 25 years, and as you’d expect with anything of this scale, it’s not without its critics. Some felt it was a mashup of the Gerald Genta-designed Nautilus (which first dropped in 1976) and the Cartier Santos. But naysaying aside, as with anything Patek Philippe, it sent the hype machine’s complications spinning. And Wahlberg wearing the spicy new piece will only add to the buzz.
